So Alex has his first shiner. He was trying to stand up in front of the TV and instead of falling backwards like he usually does, he fell forwards right into the TV stand. He hit is face pretty good and as as you can see from this post, he’s now got a black eye. Maybe Rob’ll take a pic and post it.

The Beach
So Rob and I decided to take a drive up to Port Stanley yesterday. I was off and it was a great day out, we figured it would nice and plus, we got to take Alex to the beach for the first time.
Alex sang (everytime we are in the car now, he talks to himself, but Rob and I get the feeling he’s trying to sing along with the music) for a while, but eventually fell asleep. Once there we get him out and promptly take him to the sandy part. I don’t think he liked the feel of it on his feet, but once he was sitting, he didn’t really notice anymore.
He did start trying to play with the sand. I’m not sure what he thought it was, but he would try to pick it up with just his thumb and finger. Of course, that doesn’t work too well. He definitely wanted to keep doing it. When we decided to go to Mackie’s, I picked up Alex and he immediately tried to bend down and keep working at picking up the sand. He was looking down and reaching the entire time we walked to Mackie’s.
So Rob and I had some fries and orangeade there. We gave Alex a couple plain fries. He seems to like them, but since he’s a baby, he makes quite the mess.
And that was it. We didn’t stay long, but it was nice to just drive around for a bit. Rob did take some pictures, but they didn’t turn out too well. He will probably post a couple of the better ones, eventually.
It gets easier the second time.
Tooth!
Alex has been a little extra cranky lately. So pretty much everyone knows, he’s been teething. Well, it turns out this extra crankiness is probably because at least one tooth has broken through the surface of his gums. That’s right, I guess we can officially say he has his first tooth! Now, it’s not all the way out yet, but you can see the ridge of the tooth past the gums. Hopefully a few more come out soon, so he’s not so upset by the pain anymore.
Big Win!
So take a look at the screen shot below. Yup, that’s right, first place out of 1951 entrants. Check out the first place prize as well. The adrenaline is still rushing through my system!

Kinda Neat
Check this out.
These are photographs of painted rooms. Now the neat thing is all the rooms are painted so that they create an optical illusion. Depending on what angle you view each room will depend on the image that appears from the paint.
Merry Christmas
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
$1 Million Challenge
The following comes directely from the James Randi Educational Foundation (JREF) website:
The Foundation is committed to providing reliable information about paranormal claims. It both supports and conducts original research into such claims.
At JREF, we offer a one-million-dollar prize to anyone who can show, under proper observing conditions, evidence of any paranormal, supernatural, or occult power or event. The JREF does not involve itself in the testing procedure, other than helping to design the protocol and approving the conditions under which a test will take place. All tests are designed with the participation and approval of the applicant. In most cases, the applicant will be asked to perform a relatively simple preliminary test of the claim, which if successful, will be followed by the formal test. Preliminary tests are usually conducted by associates of the JREF at the site where the applicant lives. Upon success in the preliminary testing process, the “applicant” becomes a “claimant.”
To date, no one has ever passed the preliminary tests.
They also have a forum where they post the correspondences between the applicants and the JREF. Some are quite amusing. It’s quite disturbing to realize how many people are out that think they can do something paranormal. Of course, there are a lot of people out there who just want to get rich as well (those are the ones who actually write intelligently, the crazy ones you can barely read what they write). I suggest you check out the forum and read about the applicants, it’s been keeping me enthralled for the past couple days.
Royal Flush
Well, since we are on the topic of poker, I was just dealt my first royal flush online this morning. It was a sweet hand, seeing as my opponent pushed me all-in, making it easy for me to take his money!
Here’s the hand, it’s a little hard to read at first but once deciphered it’s easily figured out.

New Job
Well, if you weren’t aware, I was job hunting and had a few options. One through TD directly and a few for TD through Spherion. Well, after a couple of them not panning out, I was offered one of the positions through Spherion. Starting Jan 3, I will be in training for Visa activations at TD.
So, once I’m done my Mat Leave, I will return to Stream just to give them my two weeks notice. Plus, I probably won’t have to put in too many hours as it’s over the Christmas holidays.
Happy Birthday
It’s Rob’s birthday today, so everyone wish him a good one.
(Oh, and he’s being a bigger baby than Alex today too. He’s sick, which is rare for him, and he’s really being a suck about it. 🙂 )
Not Much Change
So in three weeks, Alex has slowed down in his growing, it seems.
Length: 25 1/2 in
Weight: 15 lbs. 12 oz.
He’s still a big baby though! 🙂
Stumble Upon
I found the coolest extension for firefox. If you use firefox, you will probably know what an extension is, if you don’t you will have no idea what I am talking about.
For me, when I go on the internet, I like to find random pages and just check them out, this is part of the reason I read fark. Well, the extension I found happens to make this easier and finds a lot more sites I like. It’s almost like a focused google search which only pulls up links on topics I am interested in. It’s called StumbleUpon. There are additional features, such as adding friends, so you can share webpages and even your own blog page. I’ve been fiddling with it for the past two days and I definitely think I’m going to keep it.
My Brother
Yeah, so I found out yesterday that my brother hurt himself at work the other day. He’s now on workers comp for four weeks and the injury is pretty serious. He’s alive and he can still walk, but in a technical sense, he’s kinda an amputee.
I won’t go into the gory details, but I guess he was using one of his tools that is like a rotating belt (no idea what it was, I know nothing about being a mechanic), his index finger got caught in it and now it’s a little shorter after surgery.
He was over yesterday and I could see the bandages, it looked pretty bad, and I sure as hell don’t want to see underneath them until it’s all healed.
On the bright side of things, I think he’s got a new girlfriend (she came over to the house with him). Which is a really good thing. He was obsessing over his ex way too much. I never liked her anyway and the way she broke up with my brother made me want to kill her. Travis did not deserve that or someone like her.
And he’s even bigger…
So, next update on weight and length, as Alex and I were at the Baby Wellness Clinic today.
Weight: 14 lbs. (This may be off a little bit, Alex was moving so much the scale kept changing, so the nurse and I decided 14 was a good median)
Height: 25 1/4 in.
Yup, Nancy, I think I will have to send Rob over soon to get the next size car seat from you. I think Alex will be almost grown out of the one he uses now. And I can tell, he doesn’t fit into any clothes that are for 0-3 months and he is almost too big for clothes that are for 3-6 months.
Total Klutz
Yeah, so I’m a klutz. Yesterday, while over at my parent’s place, I sprained my ankle. Badly. For the rest of the day I could barely walk, I’m still limping today. The suckiest part is in order to change Alex, I have to go down two steps, then up two steps. So not fun. But seeing as Alex will insist on being changed occassionally, I still have to take those steps. Oh well, hopefully my ankle will feel better soon. So feel free to make fun of me now… Rob already has. 🙂
Freya
So, Freya has become a slight pain when it comes to the baby. It’s not that she’s still afraid of the baby or wants to attack him, in fact, quite the opposite. I can barely get Freya to leave Alex’s room. She is quite protective of him and spends most of her time being near him, I’m sure it’s to make sure he’s okay.
Unfortunately, she has decided that Alex’s toys are hers to play with. If first started with his rattles. She’s tried to pick them up off of the coffee table so she can bat them around the floor. I’ve quickly smacked her for that and told her it’s not a cat toy. Fortunately, Alex isn’t putting things in his mouth yet, so I can easily wash the rattles and give them back to Alex.
Well, last night while Rob and I were watching TV, the cat come over to the couch and starts meowing. I look down and she has one of the zebra shoes in her mouth (these are from the zoo, if you want to see a pic of them, check the gallery). Freya wants to play fetch with it, like it was her baby (one of her cat nip filled toys). Now, I can admit that to a cat, that shoe may look like her baby and she could mistake it for something she’s allowed to play with. So I take the shoe away from her, tell her it’s not a cat toy and hide it.
Now comes the kicker. Last night at 3 AM, Alex woke up for another feeding. So I take him out of the crib, pull out his soother and place it on the end table, sit down and pop the bottle in his mouth and start feeding. Once done that, I get up to change his diaper. Finish that and get ready to put him back to bed. Well, in order to calm him I need the soother, so I go to the table.
What the…! The soother is gone. So I look around to see if it fell off, but no that’s not the case because there walking away is Freya and she has the soother in her mouth!! Yup, Freya now thinks the soothers are her toys too. I shout at her and take it away, but I really doubt she understands. I’m going to sanitize it, but what’s to stop Freya from taking his other soothers. Especially since, he doesn’t keep them in his mouth all the time and they have a tendancy to fall out. Oh well, I think Freya will just have to see the wrong end of the water bottle more often.
Our baby is huge!!
So, I went back to the baby wellness clinic again today. Before I get into his weight and height, I’d like to say MY BABY IS HUGE!
I was sitting and waiting for my turn, and of course, there are several other babies and mothers there. And I notice quite a few of the babies are crawling about and/or playing with toys. This means they are older than Alex. The next thing I noticed is Alex is bigger than all of them! One of the babies, was probably at least 7 months old and I think the two of them were about the same size.
Is this a good thing? Or a bad thing? I don’t know, but I had to take note.
Finally, another reason Alex is huge is his weight and lenght. And they are…
Weight: 12 lbs. 8 oz.
Length: 23 1/2 in.
