Hi Rob,
Thanks for that post. You hit the nail on the head. The bloggers were chosen based on their blog entries and point of view, and the amount of Twitter followers had a secondary influence on our choice. We had many fantastic entries and I wish we could've picked more than 5. I'm glad we inspired you to start writing again, and I'm looking forward to reading your Fair tweets and blog. I really hope you apply next year to be a Real Serious Blogger. Cheers!

Great post Rob.
Sadly, I have a feeling that I was perhaps a winner that created some of the controversy. I entered the contest because I love to write, and share my experiences with those that care to read them. I'm fairly new to the blogging scene and was THRILLED to find out that I had been chosen as one of the five.

Hard feelings or not, I can't wait to begin to start blogging about the fair, and being able to share my point of view! :)

Well said, Rob. Good to see that you were inspired to write and participate even though you didn't technically win; I think that is a real value to this sort of embracing of social media.

In my humble opinion, the only uneducated statements are the ones speculating on what went on behind the scenes to choose the winners. We have no way of knowing what did and did not happen in the judges' minds. Their stated goal was having a writing contest where Twitter accounts were a secondary consideration, and that seems to be exactly what happened.

You should really check your facts before writing such an uneducated post. All they were saying was Western fair said they would give preference to twitter accounts that were active and had a following. This did not happen. And the bloggers you are referring to tweet about way more than contests. But just like you are entitled to your opinion they are to theirs.

We are having these discussions here too. Our district is the only one in the free world that still has Junior High. The board is leaning towards closing the 7-8 schools and making *some* of the JK-6 schools JK-8. Some kids will still have to switch schools for 7-8 no matter what they do according to the current proposed scenarios.

I want our school to go JK-8. It will mean an addition to the school, but they have to put an elevator in before 2020 anyways to comply with that mandate. Two birds with one stone. Then hopefully they will extend the current gifted program into the 7-8 at our school so I can keep Bri there. As of right now, the gifted program for 7-8s is not in the 7-8 school she is in district for, so I'll have to ship her off away from everyone anyways. As a bonus, our school straddles the 7-8 boundary, so half the kids will go to one and half to the other.

From what the news report said, the melting point of the plastics used in the food packaging is different from that of pop/water bottles. Manufacturers are only interested in the type of plastic in pop bottles. While they didn't come right out and say it, it was insinuated that all along they've collected the food containers and just quietly shipped them off to landfill sites. The guy from the city even went on to basically blame the manufacturers for putting the 1,2,4, or 5 designations on their packaging when there is no market for the material.
