Looking in both directions

I think, somewhere in the blogger Charter there is some declaration that come December we must write about the year that was. 2009 was a year of change. I got to spend the beginning part of the year at home with the boys. Then, come mid-year I became a stay-at-home Dad. Then, come fall I decided to head back to school for a complete and total career change. Alex started school. Ryan started walking. Ryan started to make sounds that actually resemble real words!

I don’t really want to go into great details about the year that was. It was what it was. With the prospect of 2010 (that’s Twenty-ten please) right around the corner and looking promising I’m not wanting to spend time dwelling on what 2009 was or wasn’t.

Looking ahead, I start school in just a few weeks. That begins four years that will completely change my life. I’m not deluding myself – it’s going to be a challenge. It is going to result in a radical change to the family structure around here that I’m hoping the boys will weather without *too much* disturbance. Going back after almost 15 years is daunting. Being 41 when I graduate is daunting. Thankfully, I have Nikki’s support to encourage me and keep me focused. I’ve got purpose; a reason to succeed this time around.

One of those reasons has a big year ahead of him as well. I see 2010 as being the year that Alex REALLY starts to grow and his interests shine. As I write part of this he was sitting eating supper. Mythbusters was on TV and he was totally engrossed by it. His curiousity knows no bounds and I look forward to taking that journey with him.
