Annnnddddd they’re off!

 

The other night Nikki & I went to the horse races. It was a relatively last minute decision. We haven’t been to the track in YEARS. We bought this house back in December of ’04 and since then haven’t been to the races OR the slots since. So it’s been a while. So we make arrangements for the kid and off we go. We each have $20 in hand and plans to have fun. We buy a program and after a refresher on how to read the damn thing off we go a-gamblin’.

Nikki’s preferred method is a system she has where she bets $2 each on the to probable favourites to show. While this method did end up netting her a small profit it certainly won’t result in huge wins. My method is a little bit more calculated. I’ll look at the favourites, look at the handicapper’s picks and then watch the line – usually waiting until about 2 minutes to post to place the bet. I’ll also mix in bets of Win, Place, Show along with the occasional Exactor. Unfortunately for me, I was down a little bit – even with hitting an exactor. So, not counting the money we spent on food and drink, we ended up finishing up a couple bucks. It was a damn cheap night out and a lot of fun!
