Poker Night recap

Hey All,

Just realized it’s been a bit since we posted and never posted a recap of the poker night we had this past weekend.

It was a huge success! We had 17 people playing (only had room for 20) so it was almost a full house. The winner, Jeff, walked away with $78. I finished 2nd, Nikki finished 3rd, followed by Jen’s brother, Mike, in 4th. I took some pictures and will post them later this week.

We’re really looking forward to the next poker night, Saturday, Feb. 11th. We’re hoping to fill up both tables. In response to suggestions made by some of the players, we’ve also altered the blind schedule. Who knows if we’ll stick with it after the February event, but we’re willing to try anything! If you’re interested in playing, shoot me an email and I’ll add you to the list. First 20 people get in, the rest…well…sorry, maybe the following month.

In other poker news, I played in an invite only tourney tonight that I qualified for late last month. The top three from this tourney would get flown down to Vegas to play live for a World Series of Poker VIP package worth approx. USD$50,000. There were 1659 players start the tourney. By 1st break, I was in good shape – my chip stack was greater than avg. and I was sitting in the top 200. I almost climbed into the top 100 before I donked off a bunch of chips to a better draw. Then the cards stopped coming. Well, the cards still came, unfortunately nothing better than a jack graced my hand for about 20-30 hands. Literally. By that time I’d been blinded down to ~2000 in chips and the blinds were 150/300. I caught pocket 7s so it was time for me to make my play. I move all-in and the player to my immediate left pauses briefly before calling me. All other players fold. Our cards are turned over and I see that he’s holding pocket jacks. Ooops. Oh well, maybe I’ll catch a 7 for the set. Here comes the turn: KJJ. Yes you read right: king, jack, jack. The lucky SOB just flopped quads. I’m done. There are absolutely NO cards left in the deck that would help me. I’m out 390th. While nowhere close to finishing where I wanted to, I still think that I played possibly one of my best games ever. I made good calls most of the time and rarely spent chips I didn’t need to spend. I ultimately ended up outlasting over 75% of the field. The way I look at it, my game can only get better.
