You guys may have heard of the furor that Parker & Stone caused with one of their more recent episodes of South Park. It centred around Stan discovering Scientology and being told that he is the reincarnation of L. Ron Hubbard. Thinking back, I don’t think I’ve taken a shot at Scientologists. Maybe this will get me sued by Tom Cruise. And then I’ll get to go to court and he’ll call Katie as a witness (or she’ll just be there to support him) and I’ll be able to seduce her away from him and de-brainwash her.

Anyway, if you haven’t seen the episode, you can watch it for free here (will open in new window/tab). It’s rather funny and does a terrific job at poking fun of Tom Cruise and his questionable sexuality. I’ll give him this though – if he is gay, he’s probably got one of the most beautiful beards in the world.

As for the “religion” itself. Puh-leeease. ANY so-called religion that refuses to accept scrutiny of others and results to suing people that question it deserves anything they get. For all you scientologists out there: if your pissed because people think you guys are rubes, suckers, morons, scam-artists (high ranking members), scam-victims (the rest of you rubes), or whatever – do what every other good religion does – start a war in the name of your church! Maybe if enough of you asshats start fighting the real religions, they’ll become too busy kicking your pansy asses that they won’t be fighting and killing each other. Just think scientologists, YOU could be responsible for bringing peace to the Middle East and ending the religious conflict in Ireland! All it will take is having a contigent (read: all) of your members arm themselves and start blowing things up. You probably don’t need to worry about the U.S. military stepping in; unless of course you happen to have oil sands as part of your assets.

So, we tried some “veggies” with Alex today. There are some pics which I’ll get up soon. In the mean time, to tide you over, here is a short (38 second) video clip of the feeding. You’ll see at the end that Alex has his mind already on dessert…

Veggies! (you may need to right-click and choose ‘Save As…’)

Welcome to Canada, the next police state of the world.

So, let me get this straight. We’re going to get more money for children, increase military spending (woohoo! troops in every city!), cut-down on hospital wait times by increasing health care, and, oh yeah, we’re going to CUT the GST by 2% (1% this year followed by 1% next year). Yeah, right. Perhaps someone didn’t explain accounting to this guy…$100 says the Conservatives cannot get anywhere NEAR a balanced budget during their short reign of terror. The shitty part is, the opposition won’t even be able to get away with another vote of non-confidence down the road. There’s no way in hell the public (including me) would put up with another election before it’s time for one. The sooner we get the election reform in place, the better this country is going to be.

Oh, and don’t worry folks, when Harper mandates conscription so that he can send troops to Iraq in support of Bush’s war on oil, I’ll send y’all a postcard from Iraq.

Hey All,

Just realized it’s been a bit since we posted and never posted a recap of the poker night we had this past weekend.

It was a huge success! We had 17 people playing (only had room for 20) so it was almost a full house. The winner, Jeff, walked away with $78. I finished 2nd, Nikki finished 3rd, followed by Jen’s brother, Mike, in 4th. I took some pictures and will post them later this week.

We’re really looking forward to the next poker night, Saturday, Feb. 11th. We’re hoping to fill up both tables. In response to suggestions made by some of the players, we’ve also altered the blind schedule. Who knows if we’ll stick with it after the February event, but we’re willing to try anything! If you’re interested in playing, shoot me an email and I’ll add you to the list. First 20 people get in, the rest…well…sorry, maybe the following month.

In other poker news, I played in an invite only tourney tonight that I qualified for late last month. The top three from this tourney would get flown down to Vegas to play live for a World Series of Poker VIP package worth approx. USD$50,000. There were 1659 players start the tourney. By 1st break, I was in good shape – my chip stack was greater than avg. and I was sitting in the top 200. I almost climbed into the top 100 before I donked off a bunch of chips to a better draw. Then the cards stopped coming. Well, the cards still came, unfortunately nothing better than a jack graced my hand for about 20-30 hands. Literally. By that time I’d been blinded down to ~2000 in chips and the blinds were 150/300. I caught pocket 7s so it was time for me to make my play. I move all-in and the player to my immediate left pauses briefly before calling me. All other players fold. Our cards are turned over and I see that he’s holding pocket jacks. Ooops. Oh well, maybe I’ll catch a 7 for the set. Here comes the turn: KJJ. Yes you read right: king, jack, jack. The lucky SOB just flopped quads. I’m done. There are absolutely NO cards left in the deck that would help me. I’m out 390th. While nowhere close to finishing where I wanted to, I still think that I played possibly one of my best games ever. I made good calls most of the time and rarely spent chips I didn’t need to spend. I ultimately ended up outlasting over 75% of the field. The way I look at it, my game can only get better.

Okay, so today was Alex’s 4-month appt. at the doctor’s for his shots. The appt. is at 10am.

HOW IN GOD’S NAME CAN A DOCTOR GET 90 MINUTES BEHIND SCHEDULE BY 10AM?!?!?!?!?!

It was bloody unreal. Next time – I’m going with a new strategy. I’m gonna make sure Alex is good and cranky by the time I get there. If I have to wait 90 minutes to see the doctor then everyone else is gonna have to put up with 90 minutes of a screaming Alex.

Yup, I’m 4 months old today. Check out what I should be and will soon be able to do.

By the end of this month, I SHOULD be able to:

*on stomach, lift head 90 degrees – yup, but I hate being on my stomach and I will let everyone know it.
*
laugh out loud – sorta. You can tell I’m laughing, but I don’t always make noise and when I do it’s closer to a giggle than a laugh (same as last month :( )
*follow an object in an arc about 6 inches above the face for 180 degrees (from one side to the other) – yup.

…will PROBABLY be able to:

*hold head steady when upright – yup, see my last 2 month’s posts
*on stomach, raise chest, supported by arms-not yet, when I try just my bum goes up, I think I have things backwards.
*roll over – I can get halfway over now, I don’t know if I want to get the rest of the way, it means lying on my stomach until mommy or daddy rescues me.
*grasp a rattle held to backs or tips of fingers – yup, I especially love greg the bunny.
*reach for an object – I don’t really reach yet.
*squeal in delight – yup.

…may POSSIBLY be able to:
*
keep head level with body when pulled to sitting - hard to tell. when mommy tries, I like to push with my legs so I start to stand at the same time.
*turn in the direction of a voice, particularily mommy’s – yup. I especially like it when she calls me from work and Daddy puts mommy on speaker, I can intently watch the phone and not miss mommy as much.
*say ah-goo or similar vowel-constonant combination – yup, I do it alot.
*razz (make a wet razzing sound) – Do this all the time now too.

…may even be able to:

*bear some weight on legs when held upright – I love doing this. I’m even playing in my Jolly Jumper now.
*sit without support – yup, but I tilt and evenually fall over, but I’d rather sit than lay down now.
*object if a toy is taken away – hmmm…I might have to start doing this.

One other thing – I had rice cereal today. This is the second time I’ve had it, but I liked it this time and ate up the whole amount that was made for me. This growing-up thing is kinda cool! I can’t wait to see what new stuff I get introduced to next.
