This is getting bloody ridiculous! Okay, for those that don’t know this: Google (you know that search place) is getting set to launch a FREE email service along the lines of hotmail or yahoo. Thing is – each account will have up to 1 Gigabyte of storage (That’s A LOT of email storage space). No big deal there yet. How are they paying for this? Ads of course – which is cool. Gotta make money somehow. Now, here’s where all the hubbaballoo (sp?) comes in – they’re going to target the ads based on the content of the email message! Yep. they’re computer systems will scan the email and pull out keywords and target small banner/sidebar ads and/or related links. This has all these people up in arms over this! Why? Google has made absolutely NO EFFORT to conceal this from the public. I’m sure that when the system goes live it will be made patently clear that they will be doing this BEFORE you complete the sign-up procedure. If you don’t want to deal with these ads do NOT sign up for Google’s Gmail service. Plain and simple. Stupid fucking privacy people…
