<--- Click over there for a great DVD rental deal! Free trial even!

Not much happening today. Didn’t really find anything good online last night to share with y’all. Fortunately, I saved a good site from the other day to fill in: upcomingdiscs.com. It’s a site (duh!) that highlights upcoming DVD releases. Not only does it have the date of release but also some of the extra features to look forward to. It appears to be updated quite regularly and even seems to have information I haven’t found elsewhere (such as the Sept. release of Season One of Alias).

Okay, see that link (<---) over there? Good. Click on it! Why? Because it’s about freakin’ time something like this became available in Canada! What does it do? Sends you movies! How? Duh! Through the mail.

Okay, seriously. The company charges CDN$24.95 per month and for that money you get to rent as many DVDs as you would like each month. Also, keep them as long as you would like. No late fees! Never! That’s right, NEVER! The catch? You can only have 3 movies at once. You build up a list of movies and then they send you the first three on your list. When you’re done watching the first one you drop in the POSTAGE PAID return envelope and send it back to them. They then send you the next one on your list. Rent, watch, return, repeat.

How cool is that? The US has had netflix.com for at least a couple years now. Sure, they have netflix.ca registered and there’s some yammering on their website how they plan on extending service into Canada at some point – but not yet. Now, they don’t need to bother.

If you’re a fan of watching movies (like me) and also happen to be a Grade A couch potato who hates having to go out of a nice, comfy house to return a movie (also like me) then this is for you! Okay, granted, you still have to actually go OUT of your house to return the movie (unless you live in a condo/apartment where there is an outgoing mail box in the lobby) but you get my meaning.

Oh yeah, the other cool thing is that they offer a FREE Two Week trial. Sure, you’re not going to get a lot of movies watched in those two weeks but it will give you an idea of the level of service they offer! Note: They do require a credit card to sign up for the two week trial although nothing will be charged to it. (Just to make sure you don’t rip them off for 3 movies)

From the Blast From The Past category:
Weird Al Yankovic has just signed with Jive Records and will be releasing a follow-up to 1999′s Running With Scissors on May 20th. WooHoo! No clue as to what the songs are going to be but with Al they should be priceless. This is one that I may just have to purchase as opposed to shopping@KaZaa…

Today’s entry is going to talk about a favourite game of mine. This game is Acrophobia. Now, most of you recognize the word as being the fear of heights. Not so in this case; Acrophobia is the fear of acronyms. The premise of this multiplayer online game is the players are given an acronym between 3 and 6 letters. From this they have to come up with a sentence based on the acronym. (eg. the acronym is ESAD. A possible sentence could be Eat Shit And Die) After the allotted time each players sentence is displayed and everyone votes on the one they like the best (can’t vote for your own). The top two players go into the final showdown where the other players decide who creates the best acronym for each of a few selections. The winner of the game then gets to choose the topic for the next game.

This game apparently started on IRC quite a long time ago. After that, Berkley Software (of You Don’t Know Jack fame) created a standalone client that used TCP/IP to play over their servers. Then they sold out. Flipside promptly shelved the game after acquiring and never brought it back.

It turns out I wasn’t the only one missing it. A couple different groups have formed to create new versions of the game. The first one I ran across was Acro2. This software is still in “Pre-Beta3″ but looks good so far. Another one I just came across tonight is Tams11 with their game called Acrofrenzy. I haven’t had a chance to download and install it yet. It seems to be played through their custom “Lobby” software which is free for 30 days. I’m going to be looking more into this one and find out the cost associated beyond the 30 day mark.

One of the biggest draws to the game (IMO) was the choice of rooms. Some of the rooms were designated as Adult rooms where anything went (and pretty much always did). I’ll leave it up to your imagination what words were usually formed whenever a C or an F made an appearance…

Anyway, check out both of the above programs – look for either Robb or RobbieRobb (or some form of) – that’ll be me. HFAGL

One of the guys I work with just showed me this website: www.realultimatepower.net It’s a site all about ninjas! The only problem with this site about ninjas is there is pretty much absolutely nothing accurate about the site. Still, it’s funny as hell. Especially if you remember back to your days as a youngster and wanting to be a ninja.

The other cool thing about the site is I found a site that’s a bigger waste of bandwidth then mine!

Hey all, I came across a pretty cool site during my evening’s surfing. It started as a post from a user @ Lockergnome’s forums. The user had a question about her website. So, seeing as I had not much else to do except stare at the phone and will it to ring, I headed over. Turns out she’s Canadian – from Quebec *I think*. Anyway, I gave the site a quick once over and thought it was pretty cool – she’s got a blog and a webcam. Then, later on, whilst REALLY willing the phone to ring, I headed back over. On the site she has some art, writing, AND a storefront. The items she’s selling are pretty cool. Once I get a bit of bank (who knows when that’ll be) I plan on making a couple purchases.

So anyway, if you’re bored, check out Nathalie’s site @ syntheticore.com.

Well, as you can see, there are a few more changes to the look of the site. Not a lot yet. You see, I’m doing most of these changes from work (hence the time stamp of recent updates) and I don’t have FTP access from work so I can’t upload anything. The forums WILL be making a comeback and hopefully will get used this time! (I’ll be making them more prominent on the page) The webcam will be back as well. Not quite sure of the look I want for the site though. Suggestions???

Just thought of a couple things I want to put up here.

First off – THANK YOU!!!!! to those that devoted their lives to me on Thursday (or at least parts of it). Of course I’m talking about Dan, Jeff, Jen & Mike, Jason, and Tracy. I also NEED to further express my continually un-ending gratitude to Jay (and by-proxy Erica – thanks for the loan of hubby!). He was a powerhouse ALL DAY long! The move would not have been successful if not for him! Lastly, I want to thank Nikki. She kept me sane and from just throwing up my hands in the air and saying “Fuck It! Let them keep all the junk! I’ll grab my computer, my tv, my sleeping bag & cat and leave the rest of the stuff behind.” Thanks hon, I Love You.

Okay, now that the nicities (sp???) and sappiness is dispensed with – it was a hella long trip! I started ~Noon on Wednesday “finishing up” with the packing. Of course, I had to work Wednesday night so I left work @ 8am and swung by and picked up Dan. Nik met us at my place so I could pick up the U-Haul at 9am. Well, thanks to the weather, we arrived at U-Haul @ 9:15. The guy wasn’t there yet! He arrived about ten minutes later and got us the truck. It wouldn’t start. He tried jumping it and after about twenty minutes FINALLY got it started. We didn’t end up dropping off the truck until 2:30am. Oh yeah, the other great thing about this truck was that the back door kept getting stuck and either not opening (or, more often than not), or closing.

Still not back to a normal sleep pattern though…

Okay, okay – I know it’s not pretty but it’s the best I could come up with at 6:50am after trying to avoid falling asleep all night as I sat in this monstrous room all by myself all night long waiting for the calls that never come. (Now I know how the Maytag Man feels)

Anyhoo, have a pint of Ireland’s greenist for me today! I’ll be busy sleeping…
